Ricciardo set to replace Webber at Red Bull

According to reports in Sport Bild, Red Bull have almost certainly already signed Daniel Ricciardi to fill in the seat that Mark Webber will vacate at the world champion squad in 2014.

Red bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz had mentioned that the team would announce the older Australian's replacement at Spa, after the summer break.

“Unfortunately, I cannot say any more than that we will make an announcement at Spa,” said Dr. Helmut Marko, the team owners countryman and confidant, upon being questioned if Kimi or Daniel would be chosen.

Speculation has been rife that Daniel Ricciardo will get the nod and Kimi will be signed by Ferrari.

“I know Seb quite well,” he said, “as I was the reserve driver in 2010. I was out for dinner with him a few times and we get on really well.”

Ricciardo has however admitted, that he does not expect to immediately get equal status with the three time world champion, but he did clarify that he will take the German on when the opportunity arose.

“Of course not at the start of the season,” he said, “but I’m in Formula 1 to be the best.”
