Webber to have a chat with team boss after Bahrain

There has been a lot of speculation about Mark Webber's future in Formula 1 and motorsport. He has refused to be drawn into confirming or denying the reports that he is set to quit Formula 1 and return to Le Mans with Porche's prototype project next year.

“At the moment there’s all sorts of rumours going around,” the Australian is quoted by Austria’s Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper.

Webber endured a disappointing weekend at China last week, where his car was under fueled so he had to start from the back of the grid and after working his way up his right rear tyre was not fixed properly during a pitstop to change a damaged front wing. After the race there were a lot of conspiracy theories floating around which suggested Red Bull was deliberately sabotaging Webber’s car.

“There’s also a lot of nonsense being peddled,” Webber said.

The 36-year-old did not specifically address the Porsche rumours, except to say “I still have a lot to offer”.

Salzburger Nachrichten has reported that Webber is scheduled to have a “private conversation” with Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz on Monday.
